For those of you working for global business, we know your visit to Japan is much more than just a business trip. We offer special experiences that bridge the gap between immersing yourself in deep Japanese culture and expanding your future business opportunities.
This time, we'd like to tell you about our recent visit to an Osaka swordsmith's workshop, an experience we shared with attendees from an Italian executive university. It was truly a one-of-a-kind encounter, where the masterful techniques of Japanese craftsmanship converged with exciting business potential.

The Declining Number of Japanese Swordsmiths and the Enduring Tradition
Did you know that the number of Japanese swordsmiths is decreasing year by year? The lack of successors is a serious issue. However, in Osaka, there's a craftsman who has been making knives for about 180 years, and started making swords during World War II. Now, they even forge sacred swords dedicated to shrines. They are a truly valuable presence, preserving traditional Japanese techniques for the modern age.
The "Fire and Steel Craftsmanship" Unfolding Before Your Eyes
The greatest appeal of the experience we offer is the chance to step into the actual workshop where real swords are made. On this special occasion, the craftsman demonstrated the process of making a kitchen knife (not a sword) right before our eyes.
Red-hot iron was placed into a furnace exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius. The craftsman then powerfully yet delicately hammered and shaped it. The sight was truly breathtaking. The ringing sound of "clank, clank" from the hammer and the scattering sparks. All the participants watched in awe, mesmerized by the masterful skill that only a seasoned craftsman possesses.
In just about 10 minutes, the glowing hot iron transformed into the basic shape of a kitchen knife.

Knives Infused with the Craftsman's Soul, Not Found in Department Stores
The kitchen knives crafted in this workshop are not sold in typical department stores or shopping malls. This is because the craftsman has a strong desire to explain their work directly to customers and hand the knives to them personally. With each knife imbued with the craftsman's soul and dedication, there's a strong belief in conveying its value directly.
Many foreign visitors to Japan seek out high-quality Japanese knives. In Osaka, you can discover unique kitchen knives made by a swordsmith that you can only find through our exclusive experience.
